Project Story

We designed this home as a spec showhome for Calgary’s West Ridge Fine Homes, an opportunity to showcase the beautiful lots at Springwater Hill on the shores of Columbia Lake.  

This particular lot has stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountain vistas, and we wanted to capitalize on all that the location offers.  Chris, our lead designer on this project, was inspired by the Indian Residential School History & Dialogue Centre at UBC in Vancouver, and had the freedom to push the envelope a bit in bringing in special design features such as the atrium skylights.  He had a great opportunity to control the design direction and brought in elements to enhance the warmth and comfort of this open concept home, creating something that blends in beautifully with the natural environment.

Challenges & Solutions

The greatest challenge with this project was the sloping nature of the lot, something that can often lead to certain limitations in terms of design, but can also often lead to innovative design solutions.
