Bearspaw Family Estate

4,700 sq. ft. open concept, family-friendly home.

Project Story
Designed as a forever home for a family of 6, this residence balances function, flexibility, and timeless style. With two busy parents in medicine, the home needed to simplify daily life while creating a calming, inviting retreat. Their vision centered on “calming, timeless, interesting, inviting, intentional.”

Special attention was given to family-friendly spaces such as a functional mudroom with a drop zone, a butler’s pantry with custom tea cup storage, and adaptable bedrooms that can evolve as the children grow. A greenhouse, gym/dance studio, and generous outdoor living areas highlight the family’s love for hobbies and hosting. Holiday traditions were also top of mind, with a soaring entry and staircase designed to showcase a grand Christmas tree.

Key Design Features
  • Open-concept plan with purposeful divisions for clarity and flow
  • Rough-in for an elevator to support future accessibility
  • Indoor-outdoor consistency with transitional design and detailed massing
  • Greenhouse integrated as part of the home design
  • Outdoor living spaces with hot tub and guest-friendly access
  • Unique features for each child’s bedroom, plus future adaptability for hobbies
  • Traditional/transitional exterior with recessed windows, stone accents, chimneys, and curved metal roof details

Challenges

Designing around existing trees and grading to avoid a development permit in Rocky View County. The large lot and dual garage access also required careful planning for both vehicles and guests.

Client Feedback
The clients were engaged, thoughtful, and collaborative—bringing many ideas for the exterior and trusting the design team’s expertise to refine them. By keeping materials simple and highlighting key statement areas, the result is an exterior that is both elegant and enduring.
